XXVII International Karate Tournament

The 8th of March took place in Madrid the XXVII International Karate Tournament “ Villa de Madrid “, with the presence of the President of the World Karate Federation Mr. Antonio Espinós, as well as the new President of the Spanish Karate Federation Mr. Antonio Moreno and the President of the Madrid Karate Federation Mr. Antonio Torres.

More then 12000 spectators were present in the “Palacio de los Deportes in a new edition of this prestigious Tournament, that was incorporating a new format, namely the Open Categories female and male, with the following top world competitors participating:

Open Female: Tiffany Fanjat (France) - María Sobol (Russia)- Eva Tulejova (Slovakia) - K. Strika Servia) – Cristina Feo (Spain) - Laura Palacio (Spain). Open Male: Islamutdin Eldarushev (Russia)- Jonathan Horne Germany) - Rafael Aghayev (Azerbaijan) - Spyridon Margaritopoulos Greece) - Adrian Martínez(Spain) - Antonio Sánchez (Spain).

Also a team competition of 7 components, combining Kumite and Kata and formed by 3 female and 4 male, took place between the National Teams of Germany, composed by Julia Rueckwardt-Christina Hoffmann -Jakob Schultz-Enrico Hoehne -Andre Beck -Tobias Portugall -Franziska Kurz, and the National team of Spain, composed by Cristina Feo - Cristina Vizcaíno -Fátima De Acuña- Fernando San José -Francisco Javier Martínez- Cristian Rodríguez - Iván Leal.

A posthumous recognition to the late President of the Spanish Karate Federation D. Faustino Soria Morales took place during the Opening Ceremony. Mrs. Mª José Pérez-Cejuela Director General of the Women Department from Madrid, attended the event in this the “Internacional Day of Women”.
