The Swedish Karate Federation is no longer a section within the Swedish Budo & Martial Arts Federation.

Swedish Karate is now, after 46 years, an independent and autonomous member Federation of the Swedish Sports Confederation.

Swedish Karate introduced in December 2008 a bill regarding the Swedish Karate Federation's independent membership to the Swedish Sports Confederation. This bill was subject to a positive vote on May 17th during the annual meeting of the Swedish Sports Confederation in Visby, Gotland.

The independent membership was archived thanks to the Purposefulness of the board of directors within the Swedish Karate Federation, months of lobby among other sports federation and all the positive arrangements, including own exhibition case at the venue with kata & kumite demonstrations during the three days that the meeting was been held.

Mr. Urban Andersson, President of the Swedish Karate Federation, as he approached the meeting in order to thank the delegates that supported Karate in this difficult but very important task.
