PODGORIKA - After a successful World University Karate Championship, it is time to do the maths concerning the medal standings. In total, 64 medals where available in the different categories of kata and kumite.

In the medal standings ranking including male, female and team categories of kata and kumite disciplines, Japan was dominating the 16 medal podiums, being present on more than half.

In the overall medal table, Japan won 9 medals (2 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze), followed by Spain (2-1-3) and Bosnia & Herzegovina (1-0-3) and in third place France (3-1-1). Host country Montenegro lands on the fourth spot with 4 medals (0-2-2) a place it shares with Iran (2-0-2) and Serbia (1-2-1).

Statistically, Japan took home 1/7 of the medals at this 7th WUC Karate. 220 men and 158 women from 44 countries competed at the event with 489 people accredited (111 officials).

The 8th World University Karate Championship will travel to Bratislava, Slovakia in 2012.
